COM2SPORTS – Company Sports Events is a transnational initiative, co-funded by Erasmus+ Programme, that promotes physical activity and health in the workplace by organizing large-scale, inclusive company sport events. The project is implemented in partnership with organizations from Italy, Slovenia, and Serbia, with the aim of:
• Increasing participation in sport and physical activity among working-age adults.
• Empowering sports staff and volunteers to collaborate with companies and deliver tailored sport programs for employees.
• Promoting social inclusion and equal opportunities through sport, especially in workplace contexts.
• Creating replicable models of company sport events that can be adopted in various EU countries.
Key activities include:
• Development of training materials and manuals for sport staff and organizers.
• Organization of large-scale multi-sport events in each participating country (e.g., Slovenia, Italy, Serbia).
• Capacity building workshops to strengthen cross-sector cooperation between sport clubs and companies.
• Dissemination of best practices and case studies to inspire further implementation of workplace sport across Europe.
The COM2SPORTS project is strongly anchored in the broader strategic landscape of European and global public health and sport policy. It responds directly to multiple policy frameworks and initiatives that prioritize physical activity as a key pillar of well-being, disease prevention, and social cohesion. At the heart of its mission, COM2SPORTS aligns with the EU Physical Activity Guidelines, which recommend the creation of supportive environments—such as workplaces—that enable more people to move regularly and safely. By facilitating sport events within or between companies, the project supports the call for structured, accessible, and sustainable forms of physical activity that can be integrated into daily life. Furthermore, the project contributes to the goals of the EU Work Plan for Sport, which emphasizes the role of sport in health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA), social inclusion, and the promotion of volunteering. COM2SPORTS embraces these priorities by not only organizing sport events for employees but also by building the capacity of sport staff and volunteers to co-design and deliver these activities in collaboration with companies. This strengthens both grassroots sport structures and cross-sector partnerships. On a global level, the project supports the WHO Global Action Plan on Physical Activity (GAPPA) 2018–2030, particularly its call to “create active people, environments, and societies.” Workplaces are identified in WHO guidance as essential settings for promoting physical activity, and COM2SPORTS answers this call by mobilizing companies as partners in health promotion.
By integrating sport into the workplace culture and connecting sport staff with employers, COM2SPORTS not only enhances individual health outcomes but also contributes to broader public health, social, and environmental objectives at both the European and international levels.
